NATURE
MAC
The Museum of Contemporary Art, MAC, is shaped like a flying saucer or a chalice, and was one of the most emblematic works of architect Oscar Niemeyer. Installed at The Boa Viagem Lookout in Niterói, with its futuristic façade, you can enjoy panoramic views both outside the museum and from the inside. Apart from the contemporary art shows, there are numerous activities that take place in the museum in order to encourage artistic production to transgress the internal spaces and be exhibited in public spaces, just where are the people who are not from the art world.
National Historical Museum
This beautiful museum located in Praça Marechal Âncora, in the historic center of the city, is dedicated to the History of Brazil. It was created in 1922 as part of the celebrations of the Centenary of The Independence of Brazil and has a vast collection of about 300,000 pieces, which correspond to 67% of the Brazilian museum heritage. They are manuscripts, iconography, furniture, armaria, sculptures, clothing, among other items in the collection. The neocolonialist architectural ensemble was built on what remained of the ancient Fort of St. James and the Dungeon Prison. It is a tour in the centuries of history of the city and Brazil.
