LANCHINHO BY THE SEA
LANCHINHO BY THE SEA
As traditional and unmissable as visiting sugar loaf and Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, eating sprinkle biscuit and having mate on the beach is an almost mandatory experience. You find sprinkle biscuit in the salty or sweet versions with such ease, that you don’t even have to look: it comes to you, and despite sticking to your mouth, it offers unique lightness and crispness, which marry very well with the very cold-made tea-mate. The mate, equally easy to find on the beach, is usually offered in a glass, and with the option to add lemon juice, to balance and make your drink even more refreshing.
In the post-beach, the açaí is super welcome (in fact, for the carioca, the açaí is welcome at any time!). The smoothie made with this purple fruit from the Amazon rainforest fits perfectly into the lifestyle of the city’s inhabitants. There are a multitude of toppings to accompany the acai berry, and granola is the most common of them.
If you don’t like very sweet flavors, look for acai trees that are beaten with little or no guarana syrup.
